Sweater Construction: the online class

The second class in the Knit to Fit series is out now!

This pre-recorded and captioned online class begins with the basics of sweater construction — yes, accessible even for a first-time sweater knitter! — and then offers an in-depth look at each of the four most common types of sweater construction in the knitting world: raglan, drop shoulder, set-in sleeve, and circular yoke.

For each construction type, you get:

  • A definition & identifying details
  • An explanation for how it is worked, including top down/bottom up and seamed/seamless methods
  • A list of the most common fit issues
  • An overview of the best options for working adjustments

I am especially excited to be offering this class in this new pre-recorded format, because I think this was often the segment of the original Knit to Fit class that was hardest to follow when I taught live. This is a DENSE set of lessons, with an hour of video instruction (expanding from the 30 minutes I used to dedicate to this part of the class when I taught it live) and 4 original worksheets.

In this new format, you can review the lessons at your own pace at home, and better yet, you can refer back to them whenever you need a refresher. In fact, the way I dream of knitters using this class is mostly as a reference: let’s say you find a new drop shoulder sweater pattern that you love, and you’re not sure if the sleeves will fit the way you want, but you remember some tip I shared in a class you once took. Well, now you can login to the class portal and rewatch the 12-minute lesson on drop shoulder construction, maybe while you’re winding your yarn or knitting your gauge swatch.

And if you have signed up for the full Knit to Fit series, once your yarn is wound and your swatch is knit and you’ve rewatched the drop shoulder lesson, you can print out the gauge worksheet from the Sizing Clinic and work through it to pick your best size before getting started.

DREAMY right??? And if you have questions, you can comment through the online class portal or show up to one of the regularly scheduled live online Office Hours with me.
